There was a lot of talk at the Future of TV Advertising conference in Toronto last week about Total TV, and for good reason. While advertising supported streaming is a growth area in the TV space – both for viewers and advertisers – did you know:
- The bulk of SVOD viewing continues to be commercial-free: Prime Video is on the high end with roughly 31% of subscribers accessing the ad-supported service, while 8% of Netflix subscribers have the ad-supported service.
- The good news for advertisers is that opportunities within Total TV are expanding, with broadcasters continuing to launch new ad-supported (and brand-safe) streaming and FAST channels.
- Adoption of smart TVs is strong –> 79% of Canadians live in a home with a smart TV.
- 70% of streamers live in a household with a paid TV subscription.
- Something for advertisers to keep in mind: Even with streaming’s increased popularity, TV continues to dominate in reach and time spent.
